Synopsis
With nearly a quarter of British households owning a dog, they are the nation's favorite pet - but this isn't always reflected in the way some are treated. Here we follow the RSPCA officers who, committed to the rescue and welfare of man's best friend, are tasked with investigating reports of cruelty and neglect.

In Manchester, cameras follow a joint operation between police and trading standards to raid a farm where it is suspected that dogs are being bred illegally. In Birmingham, Scott's latest case is that of a bull terrier that has been left to fend for itself in a flat for several days, and Nicola pays a return visit to a woman in south Wales who has refused the RSPCA entry to her premises in the past.

Mel Fisher has a problem when she wants to take a dog into care as the owner has been arrested, while Bristol inspector Miranda Albinson rescues two skinny Newfoundlands and a Pomeranian puppy so malnourished that its growth has been stunted.
